The primary payload, The Galileo/Jupiter spacecraft, was successfully deployed on this mission. The Galileo spacecraft began a six year observational and research trip to Jupiter. Other payloads included various crew cabin experiments, as well as a Shuttle Solar Backscatter Ultraviolet experiment.!
